Four week water mains project to start on Old Bawn Road

UPDATE: UISCE Éireann has since confirmed that replacement works will take place on the Bohernabreena Road.

Some 400 metres of replacement works will take place over four weeks to ‘aged and problematic’ water mains running alongside the Old Mill Pub up towards the pitch and putt club, staying right of the Y in the road.

The works are for customers in the general Old Bawn area.

UISCE Éireann is starting a four-week water mains replacement project on the Old Bawn Road, starting this Monday, March 27.

Works in the area include laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries, and then connecting it to the customer’s water supply.

According to Uisce Éireann (formerly Irish Water), works may involve some ‘short-term’ supply interruptions.

However, Uisce Éireann said the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water supply issues.

Upgrades are expected to be completed in four weeks, with areas of work limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers.

A footpath closure will be required with pedestrian access in place, the details of which will be communicated locally.

Uisce Éireann said that local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

Matt Thomson, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead with Uisce Éireann, said: “We are delighted that this significant investment for the local community in Old Bawn, Tallaght is progressing well and that further upgrades are on the way.

“The works will not only reduce the amount of drinking water lost to leakage but will also deliver a much more reliable water supply for generations to come.

“To minimise the impact on the local community, we are delivering these works on a phased basis with areas of work limited to short sections.”

He added: “On behalf of Uisce Éireann, I would like to thank the people of Old Bawn for their ongoing patience and co-operation as a footpath closure will be required with pedestrian access in place, details to be communicated locally.

“Based on previous experiences, we know that the short-term inconvenience will be overshadowed by the lasting benefits.”

The project, which is being delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Group, is part of the national Leakage Reduction Programme.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278.
