Foxhunter Pub may possibly be put up for sale by developers

THE Foxhunter Pub in Lucan could be put up for sale by property developers Oakmount.

The Sunday Times reports that the company is considering the sale of three of it’s pubs, including the Foxhunter, which are operated by hospitality group Press Up.

The Foxhunter was understood to have sold for a price in the region of €3m in 2019.

Located on the N4, the former pub closed in 2012 and was put in the hands of receivers – five years after it was bought by Select Retail Holdings, a consortium that included property developer Bernard McNamara for about €17m.

Avoca had plans at one stage for the 3.1 acre site but pulled out in 2016 due to a “legal-contractual” issue.

Oakmount refurbished the pub and Press Up opened an Elephant & Castle restaurant on site.

In 2022, plans for a 20-storey build-to-rent apartment block on the land were rejected by An Bord Pleanála.

The contentious plans attracted 182 third-party submissions.

South Dublin County Council refused permission in December 2021 and An Bord Pleanála upheld an appeal deeming the plans to be a “horrific eyesore.”
