Former Francis team mates meet again
By Stephen Leonard
FORMER St Francis team mates, Zak Delaney and Conor Carty recently lined out against each other when they met as part of their respective West Brom and Wolverhampton Under 16 squads in a match held at the Baggies’ Academy.
Delaney, who currently plays with St Patrick’s Athletic, has been over on trials with West Brom, having also sparked interest from the likes of Wolves and Sunderland.
The highly-rated left back from Knocklyon, last year, helped the Inchicore side all the way to the SSE Airtricity National Under 15 League Final were they were eventually pipped 2-1 by Athlone Town.
Delaney, who started out as a schoolboy with Leicester Celtic before moving to Francis at Under 10 and remaining there through to Under 14 level, has been in training with the Ireland Under 16 squad in Cork.
Striker Conor Carty has been involved in the Ireland Under 15 set-up, scoring for his country against Poland and Romania.
Still a registered player with Francis, he has been on trial with Wolves with whom he has secured a scholarship that will be confirmed when he turns 16 in May.
