Freedom of Italian city for Echo production manager

THE production manager of The Echo, Liz Kennedy, recently received the freedom of the Italian city of Pesaro, as she has holidayed there for the last 25 years and brought friends and family from across the globe to the city.

Liz received the honour, alongside being named as an ambassador of the city, by the Mayor of Pesaro, Matteo Ricci, in the town hall in Piazza Del Popolo in Pesaro on Monday, July 31.

The Tallaght woman had been nominated for the accolade by the proprietors of a café in the city with whom she has become firm friends with over the years.

Explaining how her link with the seaside city of Pesaro began, Liz said: “Twenty-five years ago I stepped off a train in Pesaro, by chance.

“We had planned to stay for a day and move on. Two weeks later we were still there.

“Pesaro is the birthplace of Rossini and there was an opera festival on at the time and I was curious to see what it would be like.

“Two years later, on another ramble around Europe, we decided to call in to Pesaro again – and again stayed for two weeks and didn’t go anywhere else and we have been coming here ever since.”

The key factors that keep Liz and her family returning to Pesaro every year include the good climate, the fresh and affordable food, the hospitality of the people in the city and the stunning beaches.

Liz was presented with a certificate by the mayor where she was described as a successful entrepreneur, and she was praised for bringing friends and family from all over the world to Pesaro.

Receiving the recent accolade from the mayor has cemented Liz’s place among the community of Pesaro, and she’s excited to share the delights of the city far and wide in her ambassador role.

“Next year, Pesaro is the European City of Culture, so there will be a lot going on,” Liz explained.

“I’m delighted that I can share this with people I know in different parts of the world, especially people who have visited here on more than one occasion.

“Hopefully they will return next year and maybe I can persuade some new visitors too.”
