Fun day to mark 300,000 from Dolly Parton’s programme

AROUND 500 people took part in a family fun day in Tallaght Library earlier this month to mark the delivery of 300,000 books in the area through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting programme launched in Ireland by the Fettercairn-based Childhood Development Initiative in 2019.

This programme provides a free book each month for every child registered in Dublin 24, from birth to five years, at no cost to parents.

The success of the initiative was celebrated at a vibrant family fun day in Tallaght Library on Thursday, July 4.

The fun day, funded by the ESB, featured Sarah Sparkles, and The Moon and Sixpence Puppet Theatre’s ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ puppet show.

The event received high praise from the attendees, including Samantha and her children Billy, Aubry and Tory.

“We had a great day today,” said Samantha. “It was very well laid out and very well planned. Billy loved the puppet show, and the two girls loved getting their faces painted.”

Linda Kelly, an SNA from Tallaght Community National School, went to the fun day with her pupils Faith and Maisie.

“They loved seeing the puppet show, seeing Sarah Sparkles, and, of course, reading all of the books,” said Linda.

Another mother who attended the fun day commented: “We had a great time! We had a great time on the fun day.

“We really, really enjoyed the puppet show. The staff were very helpful, the facilities were excellent, and we love Tallaght Library!”

The day also featured songs and music for kids, bingo, drawing, stories and the opportunity to enrol in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children.
