GAA star Hannah named parade grand marshall
DECORATED sports star Hannah Tyrrell has been chosen as Grand Marshall for the Clondalkin St Patrick’s Day Parade 2024.
The Clondalkin sports all rounder, formerly played international rugby for Ireland, and won player of the match award in the All Ireland Ladies Senior Football win in the final versus Kerry.
Tyrrell scored eight first half points for the Jackies in the final at Croke Park last August, a final Dublin won by 0-18 to 1-10.
Public nominations decided who was to be Grand Marshal at this year’s Clondalkin St Patrick’s Day parade.
Numerous candidates were in contention to lead the Clondalkin parade, which was resurrected in 2014 and is going from strength to strength.
Festival organiser and Clondalkin councillor Francis Timmons (Ind) said: “I am delighted as Chair of Clondalkin St Patrick’s Day parade to announce that Hannah Tyrrell is our Grand Marshall for 2024.
“Hannah was born and bred in Clondalkin. She won the All-Ireland with the Senior Dublin Ladies team in 2023, and also got Player of the Match. She has represented Ireland in rugby and played a high level of soccer.
“Up until a few years ago, she was a key member of the Round Tower Ladies Football team. Hannah is an advocate for Pieta House, having had her own mental health struggles as a teenager. Seeing what she went on to achieve after this period in her life is remarkable. She is an amazing role model for young girls and children in general,” said Cllr Timmons.
