Gaelic 4 Girls programme
INTRODUCING girls that have never played gaelic football before to the sport, St Mary’s Gaelic football Club are starting their eight-week Gaelic4Girls programme this week.
Starting Monday, June 28, St Mary’s will be running the hugely successful Gaelic4Girls programme which is aimed at engaging in communities through sport.
“All you need to do is come up on the night with a bottle of water, your boots on your feet and a smile on your face,” Carol McGlynn, co-ordinator of St Mary’s Gaelic4Girls, tells The Echo.
“It starts next Monday at the clubhouse in Saggart and it runs for eight weeks.”
For girls aged 8-12 years old, Gaelic4Girls is an introductory programme that is there to help develop participants athletic and social skills in a non-competitive, safe and nurturing environment.
There will be a coach per 10 children, to ensure each child is receiving an adequate amount of training in their development across the eight weeks.
One of the aims of Gaelic4Girls is to support the club through the integration of the new players into existing teams, to enable growth and sustainability on a long-term basis.
St Mary’s Gaelic4Girls costs €10 for the entire eight-weeks, which is in place to provide participants with a special jersey.
Running at St Mary’s GFC in Saggart from 7-8pm every Monday, the club is encouraging girls of all abilities to come along and join in.
