A GAMES designer from Ballyfermot is living a “boyhood dream” after seeing his work on the big screen.

Warren Gill, a Ballyfermot College of Further Education student doing a BA (Hons) Visual Media in Animation/ Game Design, has a year left to finish his degree but he is already planning ahead for the next level.

Warren Gill Eimear Noone and Oleksandr Chepyha

Gill (37) co-created a game called Little Leprechaun’s Greedy Gráinne with “3D genius” Oleksandr Chepyha.

The pair were subsequently invited to the iDig festival, run by conductor/composer Eimear Noone, (April 29 to May 1) in the RDS, and to State of Play – Ireland’s premier independant game developer event at DIT on June 8.

Warren said: “The idea I had for LLGG blossomed into a game that everyone seems to love. With the help of another student in my class – 3D genius Oleksandr – we made a cracking game. We’ve made some good ones, but this one is getting all of the attention.

“LLGG is almost finished and we hope to continue the series with new characters and chapters. The response to the idea has been overwhelming.”

They met Eimear Noone at the music and games iDig festival, which Gill says was “an unbelievable weekend and networking opportunity.”

Warren continued: “Eimear said she’d love to do a Celtic score for the game as we had a Ukrainian composer do the music. She asked me to write her my story and wants to try reach more kids with music and gaming for the next festival.”

The pair are mentors in a Coderdojo project in Quarryvale Community Centre, and recently saw their game on the big screen during the end of college year show in the Irish Film Institute, which Warren says was a “boyhood dream come true.”
