Garda escort and guard of honour to welcome home medal winning Special Olympian Keith Doyle

A GARDA escort and a guard of honour was in place to celebrate medal winning Special Olympian Keith Doyle.

Keith, represented Ireland last month at the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin, winning a medal in ten pin bowling.

Most of the work around the celebration was carried out by Ballyfermot Heritage Group, who documented an interview with the Olympian prior to the tournament, and compiled a documentary, which was shown during the Civic Centre presentation in Ballyfermot last Thursday.

Family, friends and neighbours were out in their droves to show their support for local hero Keith.

Keith (39) has over 20 years experience playing the game, and practices his bowling in Charlestown and Blanchardstown.

Keith works at a business hub in Palmerstown and trained harder than ever before heading to Berlin.

Sean Brennan, Ballyfermot Heritage Group said: “It was a great day out, we got lucky with the weather. We all just wanted to do something special for Keith who deserved this. It is not too often you have an Olympic medal winner in the community.”

There was also live music at the event and attendees, which included Keith’s colleagues, enjoyed refreshments during the party atmosphere.
