Gardai and SDCC urged to take action after serious crash on Newcastle road

Following a bad car crash last Monday on Brownstown Road in Newcastle, both Gardai and the Council have been asked to do something about speeding in the area with reports that drivers are exceeding speed limits.

Cllr Timmons (Ind) is appealing to the South Dublin County Council and the Gardai to do something about traffic speeds on Brownstown Road in Newcastle.

Cllr Timmons says: “The rat race has started again with the kids back to school. The speed limit is 60kph on this road, but residents are reporting that some are driving at speeds of over 100kph. People need to slow down before there is a serious injury or a death’’

On Monday a woman had just dropped her children to school when she was hit head on from a driver on the wrong side of the road who was  overtaking a car.

Cllr Timmons says: “Thankfully no one died this time, but drivers must slow down or its only a matter of time before a fatality.’’

He added: “I will be raising this important issue at the Clondalkin Area traffic meeting and appeal to SDCC and the Gardaí to do something before it’s too late.
