Gardai are urging drivers to try and improve road safety as part of its Project EDWARD campaign, which takes place tomorrow.

Project EDWARD takes place across Ireland and Europe on Wednesday, September 19, and coincides with a Status Yellow weather warning that has been issued by Met Eireann, which runs until Wednesday evening.

Garda speed check Traffic Corp largefinalAssistant Commissioner David Sheahan, of Roads Policing, is appealing to road users to reduce speed, never drink or take drugs and drive, put away their phones when driving and to always wear a seat belt when driving.

According to Met Eireann, winds are expected to reach speeds of 50 to 65 km/hr with gusts of 90 to 110 km/hr on Wednesday.

“We are appealing to drivers to drive to the weather conditions.

“Allow extra time when planning your journey and arrive safe,” said Assistant Commissioner Sheahan.
