Meanwhile, friends of slain gangland figure Darragh Nugent have set up a GoFundMe page to cover costs of his funeral.

Mr Nugent, was shot five times when a gunman opened fire in his home at Wheatfield Avenue on Monday night, while his children were inside.

The GoFundMe page had, as of Friday morning, collected €220 of a €1,000 goal.

The GoFundMe page reads: “On behalf of Darragh’s loving girlfriend, children and family, we’ve set up this page to see if our community could come together and help raise some costs towards his funeral arrangements.

“Most will know how this was a sudden shock for us all, his three beautiful children, girlfriend and family would like to give him the best send-off as they can. Any little amount to help towards this cost would be hugely appreciated. Let’s come together and take a small amount of stress from them.”

Father-of-three Darragh Nugent amassed 59 convictions before his death, and was also questioned over the 2011 bomb attack in Clondalkin on the family of RTÉ’s Brian Ormond.

Authorities believe the attack was planned because Ormond’s brother Michael, a detective, had been investigating activities of a local drugs gang.

Gardai suspect Nugent was murdered by a rival local crime mob as part of an ongoing feud, and not related to the Kinahan- Hutch gangland war.

It is understood that there was a confrontation on the street prior to the callous hit on Monday night.

The GoFundMe page also stated there will be a book of condolences available if anyone would like to donate to the family.
