Go-ahead needed for electric charging bays at SuperValu

THE ESB is seeking planning permission for works to facilitate the two electric vehicle charging units and four charging bays in the SuperValu Walkinstown car park.

The planning application was lodged by ESB Innovation ROI Ltd on July 23, for a development to consist of the installation of a modular substation and ancillary site development works.

These works are to facilitate two shared electric vehicle charging units and four charging bays and ancillary site works within a partially reconfigured parking area.

In a planning statement lodged with the application, the ESB stated that as the subject site is within a car park it can “absorb” the new structures.

“The site is located within a car park that can absorb the development and will not create any adverse material impacts in the area in terms of residential amenities, visual amenity or the environment,” wrote the utility company.

“The proposed development will deliver the high-power charging infrastructure that is required by the modern electric vehicle consumer at a strategic location offering a safe and accessible facility at an established retail park.

“The proposal will provide a positive impact on the services offered in the area contributing to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.”

A decision on the planning application has not yet been made by Dublin City Council, and the last day for observations on the application is August 26.
