
Gold for Tallaght athletes at National Championships
TALLAGHT athletes produced some excellent performances at the National U20 and U23 Championships in Tullamore last Saturday and claimed three gold medals.
Jack Kelly took the first gold medal of the day after he dictated the pace in the U20 800m final before sprinting to claim the title with a time of 1:55., and it was then the turn of up-and-coming sprinter Sean Aigboboh who stormed to victory in the U20 100m in a time of 10.51 seconds to cement his position for selection for the World U20 Championships.
National Senior 100m Champion Israel Olatunde then showed his class with a pillar to post victory in the U23 100m with a time of 10.31 seconds.
There was further success for the club after Uche Disu won bronze in the U20 100m with a time of 12.31, and Jessica Shodipo also won bronze after she threw 28.81m in the U23 discus, and later in the day Uche Disu just missed out on the podium when finishing 4th in the 200m final.
Dubem Amah qualified for the U20 100m final when finishing 2nd in his heat with a time of 11.01 and finished 6th in the final in 11.04 seconds, while Gloria Oigbochie and Joanna Shodipo both did very well to make the U20 100m final where they finished 4th and 8th respectively with times of 12.37 and 12.96.
Gilbert Kaleta, Oluwatobi Jabita and Christopher Thomas also contested the U20 100m where but bowed out in the heats after posting times of 11.67, 11.95 and 12.29 respectively, while David Aigboboh posted a time of 11.18 in his heat of the U23 100m.

At the same venue on Sunday, at the National Masters T&F Championships, Orest Dubyniak won gold in the men’s 80+ shot putt with a throw 6.70m, while Sarah Doyle won National silver in both the 100m (13.42,) and 200m (27.57) in the O/35 category.
Elsewhere, at the final Dublin graded T&F meet of the season there were some good performances in the 1500m contests where Khalad Kourrini ran a new personal time of 4:12.39 in the grade B contest, while Kahumburuka Tuahuka recorded a time of 4:23.34 in his grade C contest, and Adam Lawlor finished his grade D contest in 9th place with a time of 4:51.21.

In the sprint contests, Simon Essuman recorded a time of 11.05 when 4th in the A race, Gilbert Kaletta 11.76 in grade B, while Uche Disu recorded a time of 12.72 when first in her grade B contest, and Amaya Mitchell finished 2nd in her grade D contest with a time of 14.08 seconds.
