Groups are encouraged to apply for parade

ORGANISERS for Lucan St Patrick’s Day Parade have an online application form on their website for people who want to register for the big day.

Lucan parade is organised by community volunteers and all funds raised goes into creating a free day out for families in the community.

The parade assembles and commences at the large green located at Green Park Road / Westbrook Park / Hillcrest Close in Hillcrest (adjacent to Tesco) from 2pm.

The parade commences at 3pm sharp and proceeds down Dodsboro Road, under the N4 bridge onto the Leixlip Road, past McDonalds, onwards towards The Bally Alley pub, and into Lucan Village, turning left at Courtneys, past the review stand located outside the Muitir na Tire hall, and disperses up through the village past the Italian Embassy.

The parade takes two hours approximately to complete the route.

There is no fee to enter the parade but organisers urge people to register quickly as places are limited.

In addition to the parade, there is free face painting, clowns, balloons, music and other entertainment in the village and along the parade route.

The Lucan St Patrick’s Day Parade was first established in 1991 and goes from strength to strength each year, with over 2,000 marching in the parade last year.

The 2023 Lucan parade was led by grand marshal and ‘Fair City’ actor Sorcha Furlong and saw a massive crowd in attendance.

Caroline Brady from the parade committee told The Echo they had 41 entries, and crowds were “20 deep and lined the whole way down Dodsborough Road and the N4.”

“It was electric. People who came to the parade from outside Lucan said it was the biggest and best parade they’d been to, outside of the one in town.”
