Happen Chance: Talented Actors bring show to Tallaght Theatre

‘HAPPEN/CHANCE’ is an improvisational theatre experience that came about as a “way to explore theatrical events”, reports Ryan Butler.

This group of really talented and fun actors is coming to Tallaght Theatre, beside the Cuckoo’s Nest, for one night only!

It will be an evening of improv as the audience will watch a brand new story unfold before their eyes. It’s a new concept and the first of it’s kind to perform at Tallaght Theatre.

The audience will spin the “Wheel of Archetypes” and select the archetype for each actor from the “Trunk of Material Items,” they will select a prop or costume item and lines of dialogue will be suggested by the audience. The actor takes all three and moments later lets loose the individual that is conjured by those elements, and their imagination loose on the stage.

The newly formed characters are brought together to meet, mingle, and create a story.

The line of dialogue that each audience member receives will be their opening line to their monologue, which they will need to deliver at some point during the performance. The fifth line of dialogue will be the closing line of the whole play.

John O’Hagan, Charlie Kranz, Anna Nugent and Paul Nugent are amazingly experienced actors who will create this unscripted, spontaneous piece of theatre. John, who also directed the show, states the idea first “came about during the pandemic” with rehearsals beginning in October of last year.

The ‘Happen/Chance’ Group performed in the ‘Scene and Heard’ Festival in Smock Alley Theatre in February and wowed audiences with their clever, comic performances.

John believes the selling point is that it is all improv, the cast has no idea what they are in for when they first step out on stage, and they need audience help to create a storyline from start to finish; “It has the energy of ‘Who’s Line is it Anyway’.”

What drew John to the Tallaght theatre was its “great” space, having arrived there when he was working with Explore Youth Theatre less than a year ago, where he met the Tallaght Theatre team and decided he wanted to perform more in the space.

In regards to what’s next, John and company are trying to find more spaces in Dublin, Wicklow, and Kildare; he also has new works in production.

Now ‘Happen/Chance’ are very excited to bring their Honestly, Live, Theatre to the Tallaght Theatre. For help with this latest performance, John would like to thank the other performers, as well as producer Emer O’Neill, Jennifer Keane, Michael, and everybody at Tallaght Theatre.

Come along on June 13 at 8 p.m. for tickets for sale on Eventbrite (Group rates available for 8 or more) and enjoy this fun night of theatre.
