DO YOU remember the Tallaght lad who last year proposed to his girlfriend while walking across the new bridge spanning the river Dodder?

Well, the happy couple tied the knot last Saturday – 16 months after, as far as The Echo can confirm, they became the first couple to get engaged on the new, red, landmark bridge.

In February 2015, love was literally in the air when Glenn Sheeran proposed to his girlfriend of 12-years, Fiona O’Grady, on the 52-metre suspended bridge – and she said “yes”.

Living in Homelawns with their three children Jessica, Caylum and Marcus, Glenn and Fiona celebrated their love during a civil ceremony and reception in the Glenroyal Hotel and Leisure Club in Maynooth last Saturday, July 2.

During the moving ceremony, Fiona was given away by 19-year-old daughter Jessica who walked her mam down the aisle to Jennifer Rush’s eighties ballad, The Power of Love.

Glenn told The Echo: “The ceremony was very emotional, everybody was in floods when Fiona was walking down the aisle to The Power of Love – even our 12-year-old son.

“It was a brilliant day, the hotel and its staff were fantastic and everything went great for ourselves and our 100 guests – we couldn’t be happier.”

He added: “I’m delighted that I chose a Tallaght landmark to propose.

“I thought the bridge was a good spot, it was a new landmark in the area and is close to where we live and the park that we spend time in with our family.

“Tallaght has so many amazing landmarks that we probably all take them for granted.”
