Have a safer Christmas with these top tips from our local firefighters

The crews of the Dublin Fire Brigade and Ambulance Service from Tallaght and Dolphin’s Barn fire stations would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

● Check your smoke alarm, they save lives.

● Never ever smoke in bed.

● Do not overload electrical sockets.

● Do not leave the kitchen if a frying pan or deep-fat fryer is being used.

● Going out or off to bed? Always unplug the extra Christmas lights and close all your internal doors.

● Please take extra care with candles at this time of year.

● Late nights and drunk cooking are significant causes of house fires, ring a takeaway . . .

● Get your chimney cleaned, Santa will appreciate it.

● Buy batteries for toys . . . that way you won’t be tempted to take them from your smoke alarms.

● Electric blankets and hot water bottles don’t mix.

● Please drop by and check up on elderly or vulnerable neighbours.

● Please remember that if a fire does break out – Get Out – Get the Fire Brigade Out and Stay Out.
