Opened in 1832, the cemetery is of monumental national importance encapsulating the history of Ireland and is the burial place of over 1.6 million people.

Passionate guides take visitors on a journey through Ireland’s fascinating past, visiting the gravesides of Ireland’s heroes and heroines, rogues, rebels and revolutionaries.
Glasnevin offers a window into Irish history and the tours are filled with enjoyable anecdotes and wry stories that bring it to life.
Daily guided tours will inlcude, The General History Tour which visits the gravesides of the figures that shaped the Ireland we know today, including Michael Collins, Charles Stewart Parnell, Daniel O’Connell, Grace Gifford, Maud Gonne and Countess Markievicz.
This tour runs hourly from 10.30am and 3.30pm daily in July and August.
The Dead Interesting Tour offers an alternative view of the varied heritage that Ireland’s largest cemetery holds.
Learn of its sculpture, symbolism, architecture and the lesser known stories of extraordinary lives and extraordinary events. This tour runs at the weekends and on Bank Holiday Mondays at 1pm.
The O’Connell Tower tour brings you to the resting place of the cemetery’s founder, legendary Irish statesman Daniel O’Connell who is buried in an ornate crypt beneath the spectacular O’Connell Tower, the tallest of its kind in Ireland, standing at 180ft. Climb the 198 steps to spectacular views of Dublin, Wicklow and the Irish Sea.
