‘Have Your Say’ €300k projects are complete

THREE OF the eight projects chosen in the €300k Have your say social budgeting programme for Lucan have been completed, the Lucan area committee of South Dublin Council heard recently.
The planting of apple trees in Lucan has been completed. Under the project 75 apple trees have been planted in community orchards in Lucan Demense, Griffeen Valley Park, Willsbrook Park, Vesey Park and Waterstown Park.
The council have sought further advice on King Johns Bridge
In relation to free library book banks, South Dublin Libraries have purchased the required books and they have been delivered to LIFE centre, Esker Hill, Lucan, Ballyowen Community Centre and Palmerstown Community Centre. The Christmas lights in Lucan project is also complete and they were turned on on December 3 last.
A final site inspection has been carried out at the Playground in Waterstown Park, Palmerstown by the Council’s Senior Parks Superintendent ahead of the imminent launch of the tender for this work.
The meeting heard that a briefing meeting will be arranged with members of the Lucan Area Committee prior to the commencement of the tendering process.
The feasibility study for the restoration of the Silver Bridge, Palmerstown is being developed in conjunction with Fingal County Council.
The Fingal Architects’ Department are updating a cost report to define and estimate the costs to complete basic works on the site, including cleaning, painting and improved protection and will revert to South Dublin County Council when complete.
In relation to the restoration of King Johns Bridge, deep roots have penetrated the bridge structure and further investigation will be required as to how these can be removed safely without causing any damage to the original built fabric.
The Councils Architectural Conservation Officer has sought further advice and is currently agreeing the further engagement of the Conservation Engineer in this regard.
The meeting heard that in relation of access to the Church and Graveyard at Mill Lane, Palmerstown, the lands at the access point are not Council lands and the land area has not been registered. The Council cannot confirm who the current landowner is and the Council’s Roads Section will need to seek the permission of the landowner in order to install a permanent footpath at this location.
In relation to the Multi-Games Wall in Lucan, a final site inspection has been carried out by the Council’s Senior Parks Superintendent.
