Have Your Say scheme gives power to the people

FIRHOUSE-Bohernabreena was officially named on Monday as the electoral area that will be this year’s recipient of South Dublin County Council’s €300k Have Your Say initiative – giving people in the community the opportunity to decide how €300k of the council’s public budget will be spent in their area.

The decision to make Firhouse-Bohernabreena this year’s €300k Have Your Say area was made by a random draw at Monday’s monthly council meeting, with Mayor Vicki Casserly announcing the winning area.

People in the area can lodge suggestions and proposals for how the money will be spent via an online portal, while workshops will also be held in the locality.

Alan Edge, Independent councillor for Firhouse-Bohernabreena, told The Echo: “I’m over the moon that Firhouse-Bohernabreena has been picked for the €300k Have Your Say scheme.

“It’s a great initiative whereby residents can vote to fund a project designed by them.

“This scheme has a big role to play in bridging the gap that sometimes exists between residents and their local authority.

“I would urge everyone in the area to get involved and to grab this unique opportunity to help shape their local area.”

Further details about the initiative, and how to take part, are available at the council’s €300k Have Your Say website.
