Here’s what the mystery humming noise last night in the Tallaght area was

The realignment of road markings on the M50 last night left many people feeling a little tired this morning, with many (we mean a lot) contacting us to query what the humming noise was that kept them from going asleep.

Residents in Tallaght, Templeogue, Rathfarnham and further afield made contact with Echo.ie throughout the night to question the noise, with one reader laying the blame firmly at the feet of extra-terrestrials (seriously).

Thankfully, we can confirm that the noise was coming from works on the M50 which saw the old markings removed and new ones applied. The noise was coming from the machine used to strip the markings off the road.

The works included the realignment of markings at the on and off ramps at Junction 11 (Tallaght).

Work was scheduled to begin at 10pm and finish at 6am this morning. The works were set to be finished by today, but M50 management have confirmed to Echo.ie this afternoon that some work at Junction 11 will continue tonight, but that noise should be lessened as most of the old markings have now been removed.

There is similar work scheduled for Junction 10 (Ballymount) tonight so those living in the Kilnamanagh and Kingswood areas could be in for a night of broken sleep.

You can check out the schedule for works on the motorway HERE.
