Holy Family edge out Sruleen

A TREMENDOUS performance by Sacred Heart, Sruleen’s Jack McCabe could still could not get his side over the line as they where beaten 6-11 to 4-14 by Holy Family for the Corn Ó Donnchú.

Scores came from all over the park for Holy Family while McCabe chipped in with the bulk of those for Sacred Heart, but even his goals and points could not help them to the title.

Rhys Rankin broke the deadlock early on for Holy Family when he cut onto his favoured left foot to steer the ball around the goalkeeper from just outside the square, before pointing thereafter.

Sruleen immediately responded through Castlemitchell’s Jack McCabe, with the terrific midfield prospect scoring a wonder-goal straight from a sideline.

Thomas Davis wing-forward Jack O’Connor bagged a goal for the Rathcoole side after a goalmouth scramble ahead of a Dean Smith’s free dropping under the crossbar to send them into a 3-6 to 2-6 lead by the interval.

Holy Family came flying out of the blocks in the second-half and nicked a brace of goals through Conor Quinn and Simpson.

The Clondalkin side’s drive was unquestionable with Jack Dixon chalking up 1-2 from midfield and Ben Hutchinson kicking a mighty point after running virtually the length of the pitch.

Holy Family stood three points ahead and with seconds left on the clock Sruleen found themselves in front of an open net, only for their shot to be stopped on the line in dramatic fashion by midfielder Sean Reilly.
