Hospital warned if improvements not made they could lose licence

A HEALTH Information and Quality Authority inspection at Cherry Orchard Hospital found it to be major non-complaint in nine areas and moderate to non-compliant in a further five areas, reports Maurice Garvey.
The inspection took place on March 22, 2018, and found 24 per cent of actions from the previous inspection had been completed.

This was the fifth inspection of this centre. HIQA threatened to close the facility last year because of persistent failures to maintain standards, but the HSE promised to bring it in line with regulations.
The health watchdog found there was “evidence of progress” since the last inspection, however inspectors said this was “not significant enough to bring about compliance with the regulations or to improve residents’ lived experience.”
Inspectors again found that residents’ privacy, dignity and respect was not upheld at all times in the centre due to the layout, design and practices in the centre.
As a result of concerns found during previous inspections, notices of proposal to cancel the registration and refuse the renewal of registration of the designated centre were issued.
HIQA has warned the hospital that, if improvements were not made, it could lose its licence.
Inspectors found residents had limited links with and involvement in their local community.
Non-compliance remained in relation to fire containment and risk management in the centre.
