HSE advice regarding Boil Water Notice from Irish Water

THE HSE has today issued advice regarding Irish Water’s Boil Water Notice, which includes parts of the South Dublin County Council area.
According to the HSE it was informed yesterday by Irish Water of issues at their Leixlip Water Treatment Plant.
On Tuesday evening, Irish Water and Fingal County Council issued a Boil Water Notice with immediate effect for the entire supply as a “precautionary measure” following issues with the treatment process at the plant.
According to Irish Water, these issues may have compromised the disinfection process which makes the water safe to drink.
“The issues have now been resolved, but water is travelling through the system which is why the Boil Water Notice is being put in place”, Irish Water has said.
The areas impacted include parts of Fingal, areas in Dublin City Council, parts of South Dublin County Council and parts of Kildare and Dunboyne in Meath.
In a statement issued on Wednesday the HSE said: “As a result of these issues drinking water produced at the water treatment plant may contain cysts of cryptosporidium and giardia.
“These may cause gastrointestinal infections with symptoms such as diarrhoea and stomach cramps.
“People who develop such symptoms should consult their General Practitioners for testing and treatment.”
