Hyland’s superb World display just short of Olympic standard

BRENDAN Hyland produced a brilliant performance at the FINA World Swimming Championships in South Korea to clock a new PB and Irish record in the 200m Butterfly today.
The Tallaght Swim Club and National Centre competitor clocked a time of 1:56.55 that was fractionally outside the Olympic Games standard of 1:56.48 as he came home sixth in his semi final and 11th overall.

That followed up on the 1.57.0 that he recorded to secure his place in the semis earlier in the day.
Hyland now turns his attention to relay competition with the Men’s 4x200m Freestyle on Friday and the 4x100m Medley on Sunday.
The anchor man in the former, Hyland will be hoping to help the team to a 12th place finish that would see them make the cut for Tokyo.
