‘I was the father of the bride for once in my life’ laughs Reverend William

THE daughter of Reverend William Deverell got married in St Maelruain’s Church in Tallaght last Friday, July 7, on St Maelruain’s Day.

Amy Deverell married Louis Oakes in the moving and uplifting ceremony, which was celebrated by Reverend Alexander Chisnall.

“It was very interesting, because I didn’t marry them, I was the father of the bride for once in my life!” Rev William told The Echo with a laugh.

Amy and Louis began seeing each other two-and-a-half years ago, after meeting at a youth service in Crinken Church in Shankill.

The couple are now based in London, where Amy works as a dental nurse on Harley Street and Louis works as a model maker for an architecture firm.

Commenting on how his daughter’s wedding day went, Rev William said: “It was a great day.

“I couldn’t believe the amount of parishioners that turned up, it was very humbling.

“You know the saying, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’, while I say that it takes a parish to raise a child.”

After their nuptials, the couple returned to their London flat and on Monday morning and began their honeymoon – travelling the length of the UK by train.
