According to gardai, the incident involved a fight arranged on social media by local youths.

Senior gardai say they have managed to disrupt a couple of these arranged fights, but expressed concern that “if weapons are used, someone will be killed.”

Earlier this year, there were reports of rival gangs of teenagers roaming the streets for arranged fights, armed with bats and golf clubs at Kylemore Road and Ballyfermot Road.

A local football club was forced to issue a public safety warning to members at the time, calling on them to be vigilant when going home from training.

The Echo understands an anonymous call to gardai by a worried parent alerted them to the location of the recent arranged fight at Our Lady of Assumption Church grounds.

Ballyfermot gardai encourage residents to call the station and not rely on anyone else if they suspect or see any suspicious activity, at 666 7200.
