Improvements to ‘dangerous crossing’ positive for residents

CONCERNS around the safety of a road crossing had been met with the installation of a new raised zebra crossing in North Clondalkin, reports Hayden Moore.

South Dublin County Council recently carried out upgrade and improvement works at the busy road crossing on the Neilstown Road, near to SuperValu Rowlagh.

The number of belisha beacons at the crossing have been increased, the ramp surface relayed and new road markings installed as part of the works.

“The pedestrian crossing at Rowlagh SuperValu is one of the busiest in the North Clondalkin Area,” Cllr Shane Moynihan (FF), said.

“However, there have been persistent concerns raised around its safety with me, most recently when I was calling to residents in Rowlagh earlier this year.”

Describing it as a “dangerous crossing”, Cllr Moynihan says the road was discussed with council engineers in April.

As a result of the discussions, upgrades were recommended and ultimately carried out to the beacon layout, raised table and existing barriers.

“The feedback I have received from users of this crossing about these upgrade works has been overwhelmingly positive and I am happy to see those with mobility difficulties and older people able to cross the road in a much safer manner,” Cllr Moynihan continued.

“Improved pedestrian crossings make our roads and footpaths safer for people who walk, drive and cycle.

“I would encourage people to let me know of crossings they feel are unsafe so I can raise with the council.”

In recent times, pedestrian crossings have been overhauled opposite Hermitage Park in Lucan, along the Neilstown Road, opposite Collinstown Park and now outside SuperValu Rowlagh.
