Increase in live register numbers, Clondalkin sees drop

THERE WAS an increase of 214 in the numbers signing on the live register in January across three social welfare offices in the county. In one social welfare office, Clondalkin, there was a drop of 29 signing on.
On a national basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 3,000 (-1.2 per cent) in January 2018, reducing the seasonally adjusted total to 238,400.

The number of persons on the Live Register in January 2018 is also the lowest number recorded in the seasonally adjusted series since August 2008.
In unadjusted terms there were 237,386 persons signing on the Live Register in January 2018. This represents an annual decrease of 39,506 (-14.3 per cent).
On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register showed a monthly decrease of 1,900 (-1.4 per cent) males in January 2018, while females decreased by 1,100 (-1.1 per cent) over the same period.
The number of male claimants decreased by 24,630 (-15.3 per cent ) to 136,735 in the year to January 2018, while female claimants decreased by 14,876 (-12.9 per cent ) to 100,651. This compares with a decrease of 30,266 (-15.8 per cent) to 161,365 for males, while female claimants decreased by 14,355 (-11.1 per cent) to 115,527 in the year to January 2017.
In Tallaght, the total signing on increased from 6,519 in December to 6,601 in January, an increase of 82.
Among the under 25s there was an increase of 42 from 875 in December to 917 in January.
In Nutgrove, the total signing on rose from 2,554 in December to 2,650 in January, an increase of 96.
Among the under 25s there was an increase of five with 122 signing on in December and 127 signing on in January.
In Ballyfermot, the total signing on rose from 2,085 in December to 2,121 in January, an increase of 36.
Among the under 25s there was an increase of 17 with 306 signing on in December and 323 signing on in January.
In Clondalkin, the total signing on decreased by 29 with 4,430 signing on in December and 4,401 signing on in January.
Among the under 25s there was a decrease of two with 509 signing on in December and 507 signing on in January.
