Installation of bollards makes ‘zero sense’ across bike lane

THE installation of bollards, which appear to be randomly placed, on a cycle lane in Stocking Lane in Rathfarnham makes “zero sense” according to a councillor.

A photograph of the bollards took Twitter by storm in recent weeks after they appeared to be placed randomly all across a bike lane.

Users could count no less than 20 bollards in total in a concentrated area before a junction, creating an obstacle course for users of the lane.

Firhouse-Bohernabreena councillor Emma Murphy was in awe with the formation, saying: “I really hope it was a mistake and an error because if it’s not, and it’s meant to be that way then it just makes zero sense.

“If it is correct then it is a massive issue for wheelchair users, they wouldn’t be able to get through the bollards the way they are.

“You wouldn’t get a double buggy or even a single buggy through it with the way it is and it’s actually dangerous for cyclists because that’s at the bottom of a slope.

“I actually had to check the calendar when I saw it because I thought it was April 1, I thought somebody was having a joke – and I’m hoping to god it’s not seriously supposed to be like that.

“I have put a query in with the council, but I haven’t got a formal response as of yet.”

Responding on Twitter to the bollards, South Dublin County Council said that the installation is “under review”.

Cllr Murphy placed a query with the council on January 25 and The Echo did this week.

At the time of The Echo going to print, a reply had not been received from the council.

The Echo will include an update on this story in next week’s Echo.
