Intergenerational centre construction to begin

WORK on the construction of an intergenerational centre in Tymon Park is due to commence next month.

The €1.29m centre is to be located between the pond and the car park at the Wellington Road end of the park in Templeogue.

The Echo understands that during the construction period the contractor will occupy a portion of the carpark with a works compound, reducing the number of available car-parking spaces.

Signs will be placed in the car park notifying park users, and St Mac Dara’s Community College has been contacted regarding the upcoming works. Access to the bring banks will be maintained.

The proposed development is to consist of a single-storey, multi-use facility that is adaptable to community use.

The design plans for the facility include a café, an associated kitchen, toilets, storage and services, while there is to be a terrace for outdoor seating overlooking the park.

The outdoor terrace is sheltered by a canopy, which can provide space for outdoor cinema and other events, including outdoor games, such as chess and scrabble.

The council previously stated that the proposed facility would be managed by the council’s community services department.

The intergenerational centre has been designed for use by small and medium-sized groups that require a flexible space.

These groups could include active age, parent and baby, Tidy Towns, resident associations, yoga, Pilates and keep-fit groups, reading, knitting, bridge, historical societies and education groups.
