THE IRELAND Under 18 Women’s basketball team have been lighting up the court in the National Basketball Arena with some great performances that have seen them storm through to the quarter finals of the FIBA European Championship Division B.

Five consecutive victories have seen the team top Group D unbeaten and set up a Last Eight clash with Israel on Friday at 6.15pm.

The first ever Irish underage squad to make it through these group phases unbeaten, Tommy O’Mahony’s team has beaten the likes of Macedonia, Slovak Republic, Moldova, Great Britain and Ukraine.

Commenting on their 77-57 point victory over the latter last night, O’Mahony said “That was the toughest game we’ve had in the tournament so far.

“It was certainly the first time they were really tested. They hit seven shots in a row to really dig themselves out of a hole and it’s not something we’ve done so far.

“It’ll serve us well heading into the quarter-finals” he insisted.
