‘It’s great to see’ 65,000 people use library last year

Clondalkin Area Committee Meeting heard that over 65,000 people visited Clondalkin Library in 2023, reports Stephen Farrell.

“It’s great to see the number of visitors every month,” said Councillor Eoin O’Broin (Soc Dems). “It’s [the report] is impressive,” he added.

The report further detailed how a mindfulness app for families called Moshi is being made available to library members for free if they sign up via the link.

The manager also outlined how the library received 70 new members in December. Also, the class visits to the library, which numbered 160 in 2023, include visits from early learning, primary and secondary level.

A new Junior Short Loan Collection has also been initiated so that popular items will be available to members when requested.

The Council said that they were delighted to be involved in the St Brigid’s festival. The Library are involved in the colouring competition which is open to all primary school classes in the Clondalkin area with a closing date of January 26. The theme of the competition is ‘A woman who inspires’.

The manager also outlined how, as part of upcoming events at the library, the junior graphic novel book club will begin in the last week in January.

The report also outlined some details concerning the mobile library. In December, 889 people availed of the mobile library service with 98 home deliveries being made to housebound patrons. The main highlight of December for the mobile library was the visit to the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) at Mount Venus Road for their Christmas fundraiser with Santa on 9th and 10th December.

The Chair, Councillor Francis Timmons (Ind) thanked the Council for the report and asked that the thanks of the committee be passed on to the staff of the library.
