January Sports Star of the Month – Rhasidat Adeleke
DECLARED ‘Emerging Athlete of the Year’ at The Echo 2017 Sports Awards in December, Tallaght Athletic Club’s Rhasidat Adeleke has made a blistering start to 2018.
Indeed she set yet another record following her great performance at the National Junior & Under 23 Indoor Track & Field Championships in Athlone.

After a hugely successful year in 2017, during which she set numerous records in both indoor and outdoor competitions over 60m, 100m and 200m including a silver medal in the 200m at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Hungary, the 15-year-old Tallaght athlete maintained her sensational form with a new National Junior and Youth record time of 23.80 on her way to winning the Junior/Under 20 200m Final.
Following that, Adeleke made it a treble in the recent Dublin Indoor Championships in Abbotstown.
She stormed home to victory in both the Under 17 60m and 200m individual events before combining with Lauryn McDermott, Aisling McGuinness, Niamh Gibson and Eireann Hayes to take the 4x200m relay also.
Such a great start to the year leaves her on a sound footing ahead of a busy international programme.
