Joy for Garda Sinead at 100th Liffey Swim

THE Phoenix Club in Clondalkin celebrated a successful 100th Liffey Swim on Saturday, with club member Sinead Delaney winning the ladies’ event with a time of 39 minutes and 7 seconds.
A garda based in Phoenix Park headquarters, Delaney swam alongside her mother Joan, who also finished in the top 10 for the women’s event.

From Dunboyne in Meath, Sinead Delaney (38) took part in her first Liffey Swim 25 years ago, aged 13, alongside her mother.
Over 600 swimmers competed in the 2.2 km Liffey swim, organised by Leinster Open Sea and sponsored by Jones Engineering and Dublin City Council.
Phoenix Masters Swim Club posted a message on social media, congratulating the Delaneys, along with member Conor O’Neil who earned a “well deserved” third place in the men’s event.
They also praised “torpedo-like performances” of Annmarie Kenrick and Maeve Keenan, Phoenix women who won the team prize.
“How great and exciting though is it to have actual high-performance swimming success for the club.”
Entrants to the Liffey Swim had to complete six qualifying open sea races from the annual Leinster Open Sea Calendar to be eligible for the race.
Teenager Mark Hanley (15) who is part of the North Dublin Swimming Club claimed first place in the men’s event with a time of 35 minutes and 29 seconds.
