Joyce is Lucan good for Celtic Clash 3 bill

FRESH from his commanding performance at Celtic Clash 2 in May, where he knocked out Poland’s Patryk Jackowiak in the first round, John Joyce makes a much anticipated return to the National Stadium this coming Saturday.

The Lucan boxer has been added to the bill of the much-anticipated “Celtic Clash 3 Building Champions event”, and is determined to show people his previous knockout performance was not a once-off when he takes on Northern Ireland’s James Gorman.

John Joyce victory

Facing an opponent with just eight wins in 47 bouts, Joyce will be expected to produce another convincing display this weekend.

Speaking about last May’s fight, he said: “If you had heard me in the hallway before I got in the ring, I was like a lunatic.

“I got in there and had him down three times.

He added: “The best way to describe me is someone who likes to walk somebody down, wear them down, and hurt them with every punch I’m throwing”

Joyce only entered the sport five years ago aged 25, as he remarked: “I only started boxing five years ago”.

“I fought at intermediate level as an amateur,” he added.

While some have questioned his lack of experience in the sport, Joyce said: “I wouldn’t be too well known in the amateur game, but to be honest I don’t care about that, because I’m willing to do everything I can to really make a name for myself over my next few fights.”

Joyce has spent the last ten years in the Irish Army, and has worked his way up to the rank of Corporal, and feels it has been a great help in making him the boxer he is.

“I’m going to be honest with you, I’ve been in the army for ten years, and I think it was bred into me to be tough.” he said.

“The army has made me a hard person.

“I was getting into the ring with these 16- and 17-year-olds when I first started boxing, and they were beating the crap out of me.

“But I progressed and progressed, and it got to the stage where these young fellas had 20 more fights than me and I was beating the living daylights out of them” recalled the Dubliner.
