Joyriders burn vehicle at entrance to complex
By Maurice Garvey
JOYRIDERS tried to gain entry to a sports complex before abandoning and burning the vehicle at the gate entrance on Saturday night.
It was the latest incidence of joyriding in Ballyfermot, with scramblers also to the fore again in California Hills park.
The car burnt out at the complex
The car was burnt out by youths at the entrance to the Ballyfermot Sports Complex on Saturday night.
A Rossmore resident said: “It’s things like this that really annoys the community. The gates on the BLCO are not locked properly and the fences are not secure enough. It’s the same with California Hills, quad bikes are destroying the park land. Gardai know who the vandals are but don’t press the matter you’d wonder why.”
Residents have reported an “abundance” of quads and motorcycles over the past few weeks in the park.
“It’s a free for all. Gardai can’t enter the park even if they wanted and the council have turned a blind eye to the condition of the public facility,” said the resident.
Scrambler in California Park
“California Hills park is a great public facility for most law abiding citizens, but unfortunately it has been overlooked and run down, with litter strewn all over the park, flooded pathways and now the quads are back destroying the pathways and wrecking a new GAA pitch. These few locals are driving law abiding citizens from a public amenity that is essential for everyone’s mental health.
“Everyday quads and horses are around especially on sunny days. It’s driving people crazy that they can’t walk the park pathways without looking over their shoulder.
“Even when bikes are not around on wet days, the pathways are flooded. We understand that the council is stretched but these problems are going on for over ten years.”
Gardai had no comment to make.
