JP Food: The Best Burgers Ever!
From Tallaght, John Paul Kennedy is a self-taught cook with a passion for good old-fashioned home cooking.
As we head into the summer months and look forward to sunnier warmer days we all start to think of firing up the BBQ again and what better recipe to have in your repertoire than the best burger recipe ever! These burgers are super juicy! The combination of mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, fried onion and an egg yolk really make these burgers so juicy, moist and delicious in flavour. These can of course be cooked indoors on a hot pan, either option works really well.
Ingredients: (Makes 4 burgers)
500g good quality lean mince beef
1 teaspoon of dijon mustard
1 teaspoon of worcestershire sauce
Half a small onion really finely chopped
1 teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves
1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
½ teaspoon of garlic powder
30g fresh breadcrumbs
1 egg yolk half tablespoon of butter
1 tablespoon of olive oil sea salt & freshly ground black pepper
To serve
4 brioche burger buns
Lettuce leaves x 4
4 slices of good quality cheddar cheese
3 teaspoons of dijon mustard
4 heaped tablespoons of mayonnaise
2 ripe tomatoes sliced
Handful of sliced gherkins
Method
- Melt the butter in a frying pan and cook gently the finely chopped onion, garlic powder and thyme leaves for about 5 minutes until soft and golden.
- In a large mixing bowl add the mince, dijon mustard, mayonnaise, breadcrumbs, egg yolk, worcestershire sauce and onion mix and season generously with salt and pepper.
- Mixing everything together (clean hands here are a cooks best tool) until well combined. divide the mixture into 4 portions, roll into a ball shape and then flatten them with your hands to make 4 even sized patties.
- Heat the oil in large pan on a high heat and cook the burgers for 6 minutes on one side turning and cook for additional 4 minutes- same timings if cooking on the BBQ.
- Transfer to a baking sheet and place a slice of cheese over each one and place in the oven or under a hot grill until the cheese is melted.
- Toast the burger buns, mix together the dijon mustard and mayonnaise and bread over the burger buns, top with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, the burgers and sliced gherkin and enjoy.
These are super quick and easy to make but are so worth the effort – you cannot beat a good quality homemade burger and this burger recipe is the best I have made ever – it’s that good!
Your family and friends I guarantee will shower you with compliments when you make these burgers for them.
I will be making this recipe over and over again throughout the summer months and I promise if you give the recipe a go you will too!
