JUDGE PATRICIA McNamara has lashed out at the gigs in Marlay Park for the number of drugs cases coming before Tallaght Court.

Judge McNamara was dealing with the case of a youth, Jake Smith, who was caught with €250 worth of cannabis at a concert in July 2015.

Hearing that the incident occurred at Marlay Park, Judge McNamara said: “Marlay Park concerts – there seems to be a lot of work coming out of there.”

Smith, aged 19, with an address at Grange Abbey Drive, Dublin 13, had pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis for sale or supply at Marlay Park, Grange Road, Rathfarnham, on July 18, 2015.

He was before Judge McNamara for a probation report.

A garda told the court that Smith had been found in possession of 14 bags of cannabis worth €250 at a concert in Marlay Park.
He said Smith had bought the cannabis to share with his friends.

Judge McNamara said it was a very good report. She said Smith had made a donation to charity and had learned about the effects that illicit drugs have on people. She applied the Probation Act.
