July Team of the Month: TU Dublin Badminton team

STUDENTS from TU Dublin Tallaght campus were fundamental in helping the badminton team achieve a bronze medal at the European University Championships in Hungary.

Taking place in Miskolc, the tournament was taken by storm by an eight-strong team representing TU Dublin.

Caoimhe McKeon, Leah Auld, David Walsh and recent graduate Kate Frost were selected from the Tallaght campus to represent the college abroad.

TU Dublin was pitted in a strong group with last year’s champions, The University of Strasbourg (France), and Nova University of Lisbon (Portugal) – requiring a win in both matches to secure a medal.

Team member and Irish international Kate Frost, from Templeogue told The Echo: “We won all our matches in the group stages and progressed to the semis where we played University of Nottingham.

“Unfortunately we lost to Nottingham who went on to become overall champions.

“It’s very positive to look back on now and look at our result, we pushed out the post and were really happy with our performances of our teams.

“We also secured a bronze last year so hopefully the team can go in next year and go one or two steps further.”
