Just over 5,000 rent accounts have been assessed
SOUTH Dublin County Council has assessed over 5,000 of its tenants’ accounts, which has led to some arrears being retrospectively applied to some accounts.
The council’s total rental arrears are “stagnating” at €10.7m, according to Cllr Ronan McMahon (Ind), who asked at a council meeting this week what the council is doing to collect the shortfall.
In response, council chief executive Colm Ward said over 5,000 of its tenants’ accounts “has had some impact on the level of arrears applied retrospectively to accounts.
“That’s probably affected some of the gains we’ve made in terms of in-roads into arrears, but there is a substantial arrangement in place in terms of pursuing some
of the more serious accounts.
“I think we’re starting to see the impact of that and will continue to see it in the coming months.”
