Karakatsanis to build on fine Inter-varsity display
IT TALLAGHT weightlifter, Alexis Karakatsanis, is hoping to eventually build on his impressive showing in the recent National Inter-varsity Championships held in LIT Thurles Campus.
The Luxembourg competitor finished first in the 85kg division and emerged the Best Male Lifter overall with final lifts of a 97kg snatch and 118kg clean and jerk.
IT Tallaght's Alexis Karakatsanis delivered a winning performance at the recent National Inter-varsity Weightlifting Championships
Living in Ireland only for the past six months, this marked his first venture into the Inter-Varsities and he was delighted with the results.
“I felt very pleased winning, since my preparation leading to the competition hadn’t gone as well as I wanted it to, so I was worried things would go poorly.
“For that reason I felt relieved and happy at having my first Inter-varsity competition go so well.
“I have won titles before, but not in Ireland. In Luxembourg, my home country, I won the national championship title and I hold the current Youth records in the Clean & Jerk, the Snatch and the total.
“For now I want to focus on fixing up some technical errors in my form while lifting, since weightlifting is a very technical sport with complex movements. I also want to focus on getting overall stronger and better physically,” he added.
