Keeler eyeing up a clash with British title winner

LUKE Keeler is eyeing up the prospect of a clash with the winner of the British Middleweight title.

Jason Welborn and Tommy Langford lock horns again for the British crown on Saturday, September 8 in Birmingham, and the Ballyfermot man is hoping to get the chance to swoop on the victor.

“I’d hope to get the winner of the British title, like Jason Welborn and Tommy Langford,” Keeler told IFL TV . “I’d love the winner of that next and just keep progressing.

“I went full-time in boxing at Christmas and changed camps and I’m loving boxing and loving the training, so I know now that at the next 12-week camp we’ll learn from that fight and go on,” he added.

There had been speculation that Keeler would next engage in a rematch against Conrad Cummings whom he beat for the WBO European Middleweight strap back in April, but he has thrown cold water on that proposal saying: “Look, it wasn’t a close fight. Me and the team are looking past that at the moment. If he [Cummings] strings wins together it could happen down the line, but at the moment we’re looking past that.”

“If it was a close fight it would warrant a rematch, but I won comfortably, even with the cuts, so we’re looking to progress,” he added.

Keeler, earlier this month, saw off the challenge of Britain’s Dwayne Grant on the big Windsor Park bill that was headlined by Carl Frampton’s victory over Luke Jackson.
