Kevin’s/Kilian’s juniors secure league crown
THERE was joy for St Kevin’s/Kilian’s junior footballers on Sunday when they claimed the Division Eight league title.
The Tallaght side had to dig deep as they brushed aside the challenge of Ballymun Kickhams 1-10 to 1-7 in Pairc Ciceam to make sure of the title.
It has been a great season for Kevin’s/Kilian’s who went on a 14 game unbeaten run and secured the title with one match left to play.
Kevin’s/Kilian’s knew they were not going to have it easy in Ballymun as they have been strong all season and they certainly pushed them all the way.
The first half was evenly contested with the teams trading points with Adam Fitzpatrick leading the way for the winners, Fitzpatrick kicked five points in total for the winners, three from placed balls as he tormented the Ballymun defence throughout.
With the match evenly balanced approaching half time, Kevin’s/Kilian’s broke through for a goal from Stephen Boylan to give them a four-point half time cushion.
Craig Gibson, Matthew Rafferty and Jamie Daly were other players to find the target for the saints as they held out to secure the title.
The side will now look forward to the start of the championship when they play Cabinteely, Portobello, Erin Go Breagh and Bank of Ireland in their group stages.
