Kiltipper Ramblers walking club is a breath of fresh air

EVERY Sunday, rain, hail or shine, a group of walkers leave the Kiltipper Café Bar in Tallaght at 9am and head for the hills, with people of all ages and fitness levels invited to tag along.
Established in August 2014, the Kiltipper Ramblers is a social walking club for people who love “the hills, good company, making new friends and having a laugh”.
Last Sunday, the group took to Curtlestown Forest.
The energetic group, which also embarks on a night walk every Wednesday on local hills, also celebrates the heritage of the Tallaght hills and Dublin Mountains.
Group leader Jason Buckley, from Citywest, told The Echo: “I got involved with the Kiltipper Ramblers around three years ago.

“There was a walk organised in conjunction with Operation Transformation and I went down for the one walk but ended up sticking with it.”
He added: “We go walking every Sunday and new members are always welcome.

“We have new members of all ages and experience levels, including novices, joining all the time and people can come along on their own or with friends.”
Jason, including the other group leaders, have all completed mountain skills courses and plan the walks in accordance.
The fee for a year’s membership is €50, which covers comprehensive Mountain Ireland Insurance – with the bus each Sunday costing €10.
However, Jason said that new members only have to bring €10 for the bus on their first and second walk, and after that, if they wish to join, they can pay their €50 annual fee.
Regardless of the weather, the walkers ramble every Sunday.
