Kishoge train station to open for public use on August 26
A long-awaited train station is due to open to the public at the end of this month.
Kishoge train station is set to open on August 26, according to the National Transport Authority (NTA).
The opening of this station has been something of a saga as it was first constructed in 2009.
The Echo reported in March that the NTA Deputy Chief Executive, Hugh Creenan said in response to Mark Ward, TD (SF) that, “the overall cost of bringing the station into operational use is approximately €3.7m.”
Deputy Ward at the time responded that “with the ongoing development in and around the station this will be a valuable transport service in Lucan.”
Kishoge is intended to serve up to 15,000 homes at the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ).
Irish Rail hoped to open the Kishoge station at the end of 2022, but “extensive works” were required to refurbish and upgrade the dormant station.
Kishoge station, which sits on the Kildare line between Clondalkin and Adamstown, was finished in 2009, but the recession led to a long delay.
Local TD and Minister for Business, Employment and Retail, Emer Higgins, expressed her enthusiasm for the opening of the station.
“I am delighted that today [August 02] the NTA has informed me they plan to open Kishoge on August 26. This is a really welcome development for our community and since becoming a TD in 2020, and even before that as a local councillor, I have been advocating for the completion and opening of Kishoge station,” said Minister Higgins.
“The residents of Lucan and the surrounding area have been calling for this station for years. Kishoge is going to be a fantastic addition to our local infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and providing a much-needed service for commuters,” she said.
“As new homes continue to be built in our area, this development will really benefit local residents. It’s a great milestone for Dublin Mid-West, especially those in Lucan and Clondalkin who have eagerly awaited this addition to our public transport network,” she added.
“I welcome this positive step forward and to seeing the benefits it will bring to our community,” she concluded.
