Knocklyon fend of strong Lucan to seize Skelly Cup

KNOCKYLON United carded a 2-0 victory over Lucan United to lift the DDSL Youth Four Skelly Cup at the AUL Complex on Sunday.

First half goals from Mark Ryder and Sam Lett, coupled with some excellent goalkeeping by Niall Worthington, propelled them over the line against a tenacious Lucan outfit.

Knocklyon United

Both sides had twice met in the league this season, with Knocklyon emerging top on both counts, but it was Lucan who had the first effort on target after five minutes, Worthington making the stop.

Knocklyon got off the mark on 25 minutes when Sam Lett collected the ball on the right of midfield and fed Cathal Hogan who, in turn, played a diagonal ball to Ryder.

His through ball split the Lucan defence and on its way into the path of Ryder who slotted home low and hard to the net with his left foot.

Ten minutes later they doubled their advantage when Ryder received the ball on the left wing and squared it to Lett outside the box and he hit it first time at pace into the corner of the net.

Lucan again tried to get back in to the game in the second half and forced another good stop from Worthington while at the other end Ben Kelly, Conor Lyons and Lett went extremely close, but Knocklyon had, by that stage, done enough to secure the prize.
