Leaving Cert delight with 578 points and a free Nando’s meal

The culmination of 14 years in the education system came for some on Wednesday, when students received their Leaving Certificate results – with a student from Coláiste Bride receiving the fruits of her labour in the form of 578 points.

Coláiste Bride student, Ann Matthew, sat her Leaving Certificate at the start of June alongside 57,000 others and today she received the highly anticipated results.

Ann spoke to The Echo about how she feels after receiving her results. She said: “I feel pretty great. I feel like all the hard work over the last few years has paid off, and I’m glad it’s all over now.”

Ms Matthew received three H1s in Physics, Biology, and Religion, two H2s in English and Geography, two H3s in Maths and French, and one O2 in Irish – she continued saying about what she wanted to do with her results.

She said: “My first option for going to college is Dental Science in Trinity, but with what I have at the moment I can’t get it because it’s 589 points. I’m 11 points short, but I’m hoping to get Geography rechecked, and bring me from a H2 to the H1 needed to do the course.”

For students who fell just short of the course they wanted, they can appeal the grade through the Appeals Application Service on examinations.ie for €40.

Ann was delighted with her results and when asked about how she’s planning to celebrate her results, she said laughingly: “I’m going out to get my free Nando’s. That’s why you do the Leaving Certificate, you know. If I bring my results and my ID I get a free meal, so that’s what I’m doing to celebrate tonight.”
