A Leaving Cert helpline will operate from tomorrow (Wednesday) to support students and parents who are getting results and first round offers from the Central Applications Office (CAO).

The National Parents Council post primary (NPCpp) Leaving Cert helpline, which can be contacted on 1800 265 165, will operate until Wednesday, August 22, and members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors will provide information and counselling for those who require it.

Information available to callers will include appeal procedures, points, CAO applications and non-CAO options, and any grant-related queries will be answered by a representative of the Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI).

Last year, the helpline answered over 4,300 queries over the course of six days, which was an increase of 40 per cent on the previous year.

Geoffrey Browne President NPCpp said: “For many this period is a key decision time and a gateway to third level.

“However, learning is lifelong and with motivation and self-belief there are many roads open to progress in a chosen career.”

While a SUSI spokesperson said they will be available to answer any queries on grant application procedures and eligibility criteria.

The helpline opens on Wednesday, August 15, from 10am.
